Personal Challenge

My Skin Story

My journey into skincare began from a personal challenge.

In my early 50s, I experienced significant changes in my skin. Dryness, pigmentation, loss of firmness, fine lines and hormonal breakouts became ongoing concerns.

The rashes often left visible marks and scarring, and I found myself seraching for solutions that could genuinely support my skin without relying on harsh ingredients or invasive procedures.

Early Influences

My appreciation for natural ingredients started much earlier.

As a young women, I experienced sinus sensitivities and became increasingly conscious of what I put on and around my body.

During a visit to Korea, an old school friend introduced me to a rural community where natural fibers were traditionally dyed with red earth and used to help soothe atopic skin conditions,

The experience left a lasting impression and deepened my appreciation for nature's ability to support skin health.

An unexpected path

From Systems to Skincare

At the time, I was building a career in Information Technology, specializing in systems optimization, precision and continuous improvement.


I was naturally drawn to understanding how things worked, identifying inefficiencies and fine-tuning systems to achieve better outcomes.

Over time, I began applying the same principles to skincare, becoming fascinated by ingredient interactions, formulation design and skin health.

Discovering a Gap

As I researched skincare more extensively, I discovered that many products relied on pre-manufactured bases, synthetic fillers, enhancers and chemical preservatives.


While convenient for manufacturing, I felt there was an opportunity to create skincare differently - with carefully selected ingredients, purposeful formulation and a focus on performance rather than marketing trends.

Creating LA MAXIME

LA MAXIME was not built overnight.


What began as a personal pursuit in 2007 became more than 15 years of research, development and refinement - a long journey of understanding mature skin, ingredient compatibility and how each formula should perform on the skin.

I set out to create high-performing skincare that combined the finest botanical ingredients with intelligent formulation. Every ingredient was careully selected for it compatibility, purpose and contribution to the overall performance of the formula.

Drawing on my background in precision, optimization and fine-tuning, I immersed myself in researching skin-supportive actives and refining each formulation until it felt complete.

Every LA MAXIME formulation is created from scratch and designed to work in harmony with the skin - supporting comfort, luminosity and resilience.

Today, LA MAXIME remains an independent Australian skincare brand founded and formulated by Jacqueline Koo in Melbourne.

What began as a personal search for solutions to my own skin concerns has grown into a collection created specifically for mature skin. The same principles that inspired the brand in 2007 — structure, consistency and intelligent formulation — continue to guide every product we create.

At 71, I still use every LA MAXIME product myself. I remain closely involved in every formulation, committed to creating skincare I genuinely believe in and proudly use every day.
